Introducing Enterprise Modules

enterprismodules Puppet is going strong. This year, Puppetconf in Portland was bigger and better than before. Slowly but surely, Puppet is also entering the large enterprises. More and more large enterprise customers recognise the need for the consistent and fast deployment of systems and application. More and more large enterprise customers value the strengths that Puppet and the Puppet ecosystem bring, but more and more, the big enterprise customers also see the parts that are missing to make them happy.

Large Customer Requirements

If you look at the puppet forge, you see an enormous amount of usable Puppet modules. Modules for most if not all of the basic system configuration are available. Sometimes, it is even hard to decide which one to use. If you go higher up the stack and look at databases and application servers, the view is a bit different. For open source software like Mysql, Postgres, and JBoss, you can find some modules, but a lot of large enterprise customers also need closed source enterprise software like, for example, Oracle RDBMS, Oracle WebLogic, Tibco BW, IBM DB2, and IBM WebSphere. If you look at the forge, there are very few if any modules available for this kind of software. enterprismodules

Enterprise Modules

This is where Enterprise Modules comes in. We are committed to helping large enterprise customers enjoy the full benefits of using Puppet, not only for the base operating system, but also for all middleware and application installations.

Implementing Puppet in a large organisation is tough. Hard work and a big investment are necessary. Large enterprises need assurance that such an investment will pay off. They need to be certain that they can keep their puppet code running even when a new version of a database is released. They need to be certain they can continue to operate when a key employee—like the one who built the custom Puppet module—leaves the company.

Enterprise Modules is committed to being the best possible partner for these large enterprise customers.

What do we do?

We have already built high-quality Puppet modules for the installation of Oracle Database and Oracle WebLogic. We have used these modules for large customers and have helped them to bring fast, consistent deployments to their Oracle and WebLogic installations. At this moment, we are building modules for TIBCO software and are looking to expand our range of modules to all the software used by large enterprise customers.

How do we do it?

During the development of the Oracle and WebLogic puppet modules, we created a library that helps us to build puppet code for enterprise-class software. We called it easy_type. Using easy_type, we built a lot of extensions to the Puppet type system. We also will be able to create Puppet extensions for IBM DB2, IBM WebSphere, and other enterprise software with easy_type. We will build it quickly and build it well.

Strengthen the Puppet Ecosystem

Customers already have a lot of options when they are using Puppet. Building their own modules, using modules from the forge. We are confident Enterprise Modules will strengthen the Puppet ecosystem and lower the barriers for large enterprise customers. Curious? Check out our Website.
